PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES

Simran Singh is the founding and managing partner of Singh, Singh & Trauben, LLP. He concentrates his practice in the areas of music, film, television and corporate law, representing Grammy and Billboard-award winning recording artists, songwriters and producers, leading record and production companies, celebrities, documentarians, filmmakers, screenwriters, global entertainment, media and technology corporations, premier internet advertising networks, and high net-worth individuals in connection with a multitude of film, television, music and business dealings.

Mr. Singh served as a business and legal affairs in-house attorney for Universal Music for several years before starting his own legal practice. Because of Mr. Singh’s background working for the world’s largest music company, he understands not only the finer points of entertainment and business contract terms but also the significance of intellectual property issues at hand. Across the spectrum of music law, Mr. Singh routinely negotiates recording, publishing, management, distribution, touring, merchandising, licensing, and partnership agreements, as well as devises strategies to help his clients protect their intellectual property rights. He has personally negotiated music deals totaling over $250 Million in guaranteed compensation for his clients.

In the realm of motion pictures, Mr. Singh regularly works on structuring finance, production and distribution agreements as well as talent and executive employment agreements and rights acquisitions and sales agreements for both established and emerging film and media entities. Mr. Singh regularly assists with business affairs for film production, including drafting and negotiating actor agreements, director agreements, producer agreements, life-story rights, the use and exploitation of all aspects of intellectual property (copyright, trademark and trade secrets), merchandising, distribution, licensing, publishing, advertising, marketing, publicity, and interactive media. In television, Mr. Singh frequently structures complex production and talent agreements for scripted and unscripted/reality television series.

In 2014, he used the knowledge that he gained from his legal experiences to produce his first motion picture entitled Where Hope Grows, which was a financial success and won the 2014 Audience Choice Award at the Heartland Film Festival. Where Hope Grows had a nationwide theatrical release and is currently distributed by Lions Gate in the United States and by Sony Pictures internationally. Mr. Singh was subsequently an Executive Producer of a Netflix series based on the life of Selena Quintanilla and he has several other high profile motion picture productions in development.

Mr. Singh has been mentioned, credited and/or quoted in numerous outlets, including Forbes, The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard and Variety.  Additionally, he has been a frequent speaker at music, digital, and entertainment conferences, including, in particular, at entertainment law seminars at his alma-mater the University of Miami School of Law.

Mr. Singh is a member of the California and Florida Bars and received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami, where he was elected to serve as Senator of the Student Bar Association for two terms. Mr. Singh earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a dual major from the College of William & Mary.
