Justin Trauben is an associate at Singh, Singh & Trauben, LLP and focuses on all areas of intellectual property disputes, including trade secret, copyright and trademark infringement, as well as general and complex, high-stakes business disputes, including entertainment, new media and technology. Mr. Trauben’s diverse litigation practice has allowed him to represent plaintiffs and defendants in the technology, software, manufacturing, entertainment, and retail industries. Mr. Trauben has successfully prosecuted and defended, among others, claims for copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, fraud, false advertising, unfair competition, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duties and defamation.
Mr. Trauben regularly assists clients in a variety of entertainment-related matters, including clearance and vetting, copyright, titles, trademark and E&O insurance. Mr. Trauben maintains experience with complex transactions such as film acquisition and distribution agreements, co-production and co-financing agreements, and private equity investments. Mr. Trauben’s ability to counsel creative people in a balanced and effective way is informed by his entertainment background, just as his company side remains practical and flexible as a result of his on-going contact with individual filmmakers and musicians.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Trauben embarked on his career in the entertainment industry when he co-founded, produced and directed a new media entertainment travel program devoted to sharing the cross-cultural experience of world travel. Sponsored by, among others, the Lonely Planet, Naneu Pro, Travelpod.com, and Gregory Mountain Products, Mr. Trauben’s travel entertainment company published online videos, pictures and text to a large viewing community, additionally maintaining exposure in online and print media.
Mr. Trauben received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was a member of the San Diego Journal of Climate & Energy Law. Mr. Trauben also served as the President of the Environmental Law Society, whereby he assisted with administering USD’s Annual Climate & Energy Law Symposium. Mr. Trauben earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan.
