Missy Elliott Sues Producer Over Copyrights in Early Recordings

Legendary rapper Missy Elliott sued producer Terry Williams in Florida federal court seeking a judgment that she owns composition rights in recordings she made at his studio in the mid-1990s.

Williams has sued Elliott in Pennsylvania for copyright infringement and breach of contract based on his alleged role in co-writing and producing the Elliott-written Aaliyah song “Heartbroken” and four songs performed by Elliott’s former R&B group Sista.
